When do I need a business-level license?
When you're creating in-house for an organization, you need a business-level license. This protects your organization, clears your content for global distribution, and provides you with $1 million in indemnity (aka coverage against legal liability).
Our consumer plans (Personal and Pro) only cover individuals, not organizations. When you download a song under either of those plans, your name is on the license - not your business. These music licenses are non-transferable, so if you leave the company, you're still legally liable for the content you made during that time.
To ensure your organization has all the protection it needs, we recommend our Enterprise plan. You'll get everything you need to safely distribute content under your business's name, plus loads of other features to improve your workflow and collaboration.
Once I download a track, can I use it multiple times for multiple projects?
Yes, but it depends on your whether you are a paid Subscriber or not and when you obtained your license.
For Subscribers: As a subscriber, you can download and use songs, sound effects, and videos in as many projects as you'd like during your active subscription, subject to our Terms of Use. You do not need to re-download content to reuse it within your subscription period. If you need a Proof of License for multiple projects, you can download new documentation anytime from your Downloads Page in My Media. However, if you cancel your subscription, you can no longer use the content in new projects. Additionally, any music used in broadcasts on network/cable television requires a cue sheet.
For Free Users or One-Time Purchasers: We have recently updated our Terms of Use, and Lifetime Licenses are no longer available for purchase. Moving forward, free users can purchase Single Use Licenses, which grant perpetual rights to use a track but only for one specific project. If you need to use the same track in another project, you'll need to purchase an additional license. As always, any content used in network/cable television broadcasts requires a cue sheet.
For Existing Lifetime License Holders: If you previously purchased a Lifetime License, it remains valid and you may continue using the track in multiple projects as originally permitted. However, no new Lifetime Licenses are being issued.
Can I re-download or use downloaded content after my subscription expires?
No.
If you choose to cancel your subscription, you cannot re-download or use our content in new projects. To continue using Soundstripe content for new projects, you may reactivate your subscription or purchase Single Use Licenses, which grant you perpetual rights to use selected tracks for individual projects.
Can I cancel whenever? What about refunds?
You are able to cancel your account at any time. Requests to cancel within the first 30 days of the initial subscription period may be entitled to a refund if you have not used any of our content. A refund will not be issued for failure to cancel your account before the billing period renews, and annual cancellations are not entitled to a prorated refund. You will not be eligible for any prorated refund of any portion of the subscription fee paid for during the subscription period. Should you believe a refund or credit to your account is deserved, contact our Customer Support department at help@soundstripe.com - we will review this request promptly.
How often do you add new content?
We add royalty-free music to our library every Friday; typically about 100 songs are added each month. Our royalty-free sound effects catalog is updated quarterly; generally 5,000+ at a time. Our royalty-free video catalog is continuously curated and growing to provide the most relevant and up-to-date content for our customers.
Do you have a formal legal license agreement to look at?
Yes, our Terms of Use serve as our license agreement. You can view our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy here.
What are your restrictions?
Nudity and live performances.
We only have a couple restrictions. The first is the use of any content licensed from Soundstripe with nudity. Live performances of our music are also prohibited.
Can I use music from Soundstripe to create my own song?
No.
All of the content on our site is copyrighted material, so altering the integrity of the song (including adding vocals or additional instruments) is strictly prohibited. However, you may shorten, loop, or fade into another track to fit your project.
Can I use Soundstripe content for my podcast?
Yes!
Music may be used for podcasts, too! Royalty-free songs and sound effects can be downloaded once and used as many times as you like throughout your active subscription. If your subscription expires, you no longer have the rights to use downloaded content in future podcast episodes.
When purchasing a Lifetime License, you generate just one music license for the song allowing you to use the song in multiple podcast episodes, in perpetuity.
What is YouTube's Content ID?
Copyright owners can use a system called Content ID to easily identify and manage their content on YouTube. Videos uploaded to YouTube are scanned against a database of files that have been submitted to YouTube by content owners.
Copyright owners get to decide what happens when content in a video on YouTube matches a work they own. When a match is found, the video gets a Content ID claim. Copyright owners can then choose to monetize the video by running ads.
