Keep Creating Ep.9: Nick Laparra on Daily Habits, Self-Awareness, and Finding Good Mentors

Drew Gula

Jan 31, 2020

“Be the change you want to see in the world” is something we’ve all read and heard a hundred times. You could even go so far as to call it one of the 20th century’s most impactful quotes.

When Mahatma Gandhi spoke those words, he put a powerful idea into a concise, no-nonsense statement. He couldn’t have predicted how his comment would influence millions of blogs, books, and public talks a century later.

And he certainly wouldn’t have predicted that his personal vision — of individuals stepping up to make our world a better, more beautiful place — would supercharge a generation of dreamers and doers.

This week we talked with Nick Laparra, a man who’s more than willing to carry Gandhi’s torch. Nick is the host of Let’s Give A Damn, a podcast that educates and inspires people to start bringing change to the world around them. He’s also a consultant, speaker, and activist.

But most importantly, Nick is a bold and passionate humanitarian. He’s dedicated his life to showing people that even one good act — one tiny “ripple” — can start us on a path to changing ourselves and the world around us.

We talked about how Nick creates and maintains daily habits, the value of being honest with yourself, and why there’s no room for excuses if you really want to make a difference.
