What does the Personal license cover?

Designed for non-commercial, individual use

What is the Personal license?

The Personal license is Soundstripe's entry-level single-use license, designed for non-commercial, individual use. It gives you perpetual rights with unlimited versions and edits for one designated project.

This license is for personal use only. If your project is for a business, brand, sponsored content, or anything that generates revenue, you'll need the Digital license or higher.

Where can I use a Personal license?

  • Personal social media profiles: Content posted to your own personal social media accounts on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, or similar platforms. The account must belong to you as an individual and must not be operated as a business or brand.
  • Personal blogs or websites: Non-commercial personal websites, hobby sites, personal portfolios (non-revenue-generating), and family or community pages that don't promote products or services for sale.
  • Personal life events: Music for weddings, graduations, funerals, anniversaries, birthday celebrations, baby showers, and similar private occasions. This includes slideshows, ceremony background music, and reception playlists.
  • Academic projects: Student or faculty projects created for educational purposes at an accredited institution. This covers class assignments, thesis multimedia, student films, and school-sponsored event videos. The project must not be produced for commercial distribution or generate revenue. If the project is later produced for revenue, a different license will be needed for proper coverage.

What's not covered by a Personal license?

  • Monetized YouTube channels or content with ads enabled
  • Sponsored or branded content
  • Business or brand promotion of any kind
  • Freelance client work
  • Any content that generates revenue
  • Podcast intros and outros (these require a Digital license)

If any of the above apply to your project, you'll need a different license.

Tips & tricks

  • If your social media account has a monetization program enabled (like YouTube Partner Program or TikTok Creator Fund), your content may be considered commercial even if you don't think of it that way. When in doubt, go Digital.
  • The Personal license is perpetual, meaning your rights don't expire after the project is created.
