What is the Digital license?

The Digital license is designed for commercial use across internet-based and digitally distributed channels. It gives you perpetual rights with unlimited versions and edits for one designated project. If your content lives online and your use is commercial, Digital is usually the right starting point.

This license also covers all podcast intros, outros, bumpers, and segment music, regardless of whether the podcast is commercial or non-commercial.

Where can I use a Digital license?

  • Business websites or landing page videos: Music in videos on your company website, product pages, microsites, or campaign pages. Includes homepage hero videos, brand films, and service overviews.
  • Internal company platforms: Music in password-protected or access-restricted internal content, like staff training portals, learning management systems (LMS), employee intranets, and HR onboarding platforms. Content must stay internal.
  • Phone on-hold systems: Hold music and background audio for business phone systems, IVR menus, and VoIP platforms.
  • Digital advertisements (internet-only): Music in paid or organic ads distributed exclusively online, including Google Ads, YouTube pre-roll, Meta and Instagram ads, TikTok sponsored content, LinkedIn ads, and programmatic placements. Does not cover TV commercials, radio spots, or OTT/CTV ad placements.
  • Digital branded content: Music in brand-produced editorial or entertainment content distributed digitally, including branded web series, sponsored articles with embedded video, and influencer collaboration videos where the brand holds the license.
  • Product explainers: Music in videos that demonstrate or explain a product's features. Includes SaaS product tours, how-to guides, unboxing-style content, and comparison videos distributed on your website, YouTube, or social channels.
  • Demos: Music in product demo videos, software walkthroughs, live demo recordings, and pitch-deck video inserts used in sales or investor presentations.
  • Promotional videos: Music in general promotional content for a business, service, event, or initiative. Covers company overview videos, launch announcements, testimonials, and social media promotional clips.
  • Corporate internal communications: Music in internal-facing content like executive presentations, all-hands recordings, onboarding videos, and town hall recaps. Content must stay within the organization.
  • Podcast intros and outros: Music used as opening or closing themes, transition bumpers, or segment dividers in podcast episodes distributed on any digital platform. Applies to commercial and non-commercial podcasts alike.

What's not covered by a Digital license?

  • Content displayed in physical spaces (retail stores, trade show booths, event venue screens)
  • Out-of-home advertising (digital billboards, transit screens)
  • TV commercials or broadcast television
  • Radio spots
  • OTT, CTV, or VOD streaming platforms
  • Film festival submissions

If your content will appear in a physical space, you'll need an Expanded license. For broadcast or streaming platforms, you'll need All Media.

Tips & tricks

  • The Digital license covers a wide range of online use cases. If your content lives entirely on the internet and your use is commercial, this is likely your license.
  • If you're running the same ad across digital and TV, you'll need to step up to All Media for the TV placement, even if the digital placement would qualify under Digital.
