A sync license (short for synchronization license) gives you the legal right to pair music with visual or audio content, including:
- Videos
- Films
- Ads
- Social media posts
- Podcasts or other multimedia content
How sync licenses work at Soundstripe:
Subscription licenses
- Each download includes a sync license for a specific project
- Projects created while subscribed remain licensed forever
- Coverage and usage rights vary by plan tier — Personal, Pro, and Business plans each permit different types of projects and distribution channels. (See our Plans page for a full comparison.)
Single-use licenses
- Purchased for one specific project or client
- Ideal for projects outside subscription coverage
- Provides sync rights limited to the defined use
Important to know:
- Soundstripe licenses cover synchronization rights only — they do not include master recording rights, public performance rights, or mechanical rights
- Broadcast projects (TV, film festivals, streaming platforms) may require a cue sheet — a document listing each music track used, its duration, and its licensing details. Soundstripe provides cue sheet documentation upon request. Contact our support team for help.
