How do I use Soundstripe music for client projects?

How does client project licensing work?

If you're creating content for a client, you can license Soundstripe music under your own account, as long as your plan includes the appropriate coverage for that use. The license stays with you as the creator, and the client receives the right to use the delivered project as intended.

Here's what to know:

  • Your client does not need their own Soundstripe account. The license is tied to you as the account holder. Your client has rights to use the finished project you deliver to them.
  • The license stays with the creator. You retain the license. Your client has the right to publish and distribute the project you delivered, but the underlying music license remains tied to your account. This also means that if a copyright claim or licensing dispute ever arises, the indemnification protections cover you as the account holder, not your client. Your client's ability to use the project depends on your valid license.

Which plans cover client work?

  • Individual plans (Personal, Pro, Pro Plus): Ideal for freelancers, podcasters, & hobbyists creating content for personal or commercial use that does not involve promoting a brand, product, or service, such as advertising, paid posts, boosted posts, or ads on any website, radio, TV, or social media channel.
  • Business plan: Ideal for nonprofits and small businesses creating content for a local audience. This plan supports 3 team seats with role-based permissions, so subcontractors and team members can work through the shared account.
  • Enterprise plan: Ideal for brands, agencies, media, and others creating content for a national or global audience. This plan covers broadcasting, including TV, streaming, film, and radio. It also allows use in any ads, branded content, or influencer marketing, with full commercial licensing protections companies need, usage in any in-house or client project, and real-time support from experts who know the music inside and out.

Tips and tricks

  • Always download the Proof of License before delivering a project to a client
  • Keep a record of which tracks you used in each client project for easy reference later
  • If a client receives a copyright claim on a video you produced, you can provide the Proof of License from your account to help them resolve it
