Can I use licensed Soundstripe music on social media platforms?
Learn what copyright claims are, why they happen on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, and how Soundstripe helps you clear them based on your plan or license.
What you'll learn here
- Whether licensed Soundstripe music can be used on social platforms
- How copyright claims and YouTube Content ID work
- How Soundstripe helps prevent and clear claims
- What to do if you receive a claim based on your plan or license
Yes. As long as your use aligns with your plan's coverage and license terms, any properly licensed Soundstripe music can be used on supported social media platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and others.
Licensing gives you permission to use the music. Platform detection systems determine how copyright is enforced automatically.
How Content ID works (YouTube only)
Content ID is YouTube's copyright detection system. It automatically scans uploaded videos to identify copyrighted audio and may place a claim if a match is found.
Even with licensed music, a Content ID claim can happen due to automated detection. This is normal and usually easy to resolve with the right information.
How Soundstripe helps clear claims
Soundstripe provides tools to help you resolve claims quickly and confidently:
- Proof of License files tied to each project
- YouTube single-use clearance codes to prevent or remove Content ID claims
- A centralized Copyright Claims section in your account for visibility and support
For some premium or restricted collections, additional clearance steps may apply. If that's the case, our team will guide you through the process.
What should I do if I get a claim?
If you receive a copyright claim:
- Don't panic, claims are common and often automated
- Confirm the music was downloaded with an active subscription or license
- Use your Proof of License or single-use clearance code, where applicable
- Reach out to Soundstripe support if you need help resolving it
Preventing and clearing claims by plan type
Your prevention and resolution options depend on how you licensed the music.
Single-use (transactional) licenses
If you purchased a single-use license for a specific project:
- You receive one single-use clearance code
- You cannot link channels in advance
- The video URL submission tool is not available
If a claim appears:
- Dispute the claim directly on the platform using your single-use clearance code or Proof of License
Personal Plan
If you're on the Personal plan:
- Dispute the claim directly on the platform using your Proof of License
Pro & Pro Plus plans
Pro and Pro Plus plans include access to Soundstripe's copyright claim management tools.
You can:
- Link one YouTube channel
- Use single-use clearance codes for client-owned channels
- Submit a video URL through your account if a claim doesn't clear automatically
Business Plan
Business customers have access to copyright claim tools similar to those in Pro plans, aligned with Business coverage terms.
- Channel linking and URL submission tools are available
- Claims support is limited to single-market (DMA) distribution
If distribution extends beyond a single market, additional coverage is required.
Enterprise Plan
Enterprise customers should work directly with their Customer Success Manager for copyright claims and clearance.
- Claim resolution is handled in coordination with your CSM
- Processes may vary based on your custom contract terms and distribution scope
Livestreams and copyright claims
For livestreams:
- Claims are applied after the stream ends, and the video is archived
- Linked channels (where available) usually clear automatically
What happens to monetization?
If ads run while a claim is active:
- Any ad revenue collected during the claim is returned once the claim is cleared
Tips & best practices
- Upload content while your subscription or license is active
- Keep Proof of License files and clearance codes handy
- Match your plan to your ownership and distribution needs
